This past weekend I participated in the No Race at the Tassajara Mountain Retreat in Northern California. My husband and I try to make it there every year and were fortunate to be able to attend for a weekend of relaxation, wellness and a 5 mile walk/uphill run called No Race. On the second day I attended a talk held by three doctors on the their view of "health and healing." There was a pediatrician, a family practitioner and a physically challenged physician who came near death after a head on collision on the Golden Gate Bridge several years ago.
It was interesting to hear their individual perspectives on what health and healing means for them as doctors, and for the patients they treat. The focus of the discussion quickly became death and when to say it's time to "leave" the earth. But there were a few nuggets of wisdom from the family practitioner that made light bulbs go on all around me. When asked what Healthy meant to him, he plainly said "balance." When asked what healing meant to him, he said, "change."
This forced me to look at myself as a health coach and think, how do I help my clients create balance in their lives? How can I inspire them to make the necessary changes to create a sense of both well being and health. I quickly realized, its all here, on this site and in my program. I teach permanent lifestyle changes including stress management, proper exercise habits, nutrition and life purpose to help you feel like a balanced human being.
