Simple Marinara Sauce

This is a great way to begin to use your Healthy On You® Let the Good Thymes Roll Italian Spice Blend. I always keep homemade marinara sauce in one cup portions in the freezer so I have it on hand when I need to make dinner quickly. However, this version is fast and great when you are adding it to another recipe as a base. Making extra is a good idea so you can skip a step when you need to get dinner on the table during the week.

Makes 6 servings

  • ¼

    cup extra-virgin olive oil

  • ½

     medium onion, diced

  • 4

    cloves garlic, thinly sliced

  • 1

    28-oz.) can organic diced tomatoes

  • 2
  • Pinch red pepper flakes

  • kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 2

    large sprigs fresh basil

  1. In a large, deep skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add onion and cook until soft, 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, 1 minute more.

  2. Pour in tomatoes and use a wooden spoon to break tomatoes into chunks. Fill the tomato can almost halfway with water and swirl to catch any remaining sauce, then add to skillet.

  3. Season with the Healthy On You® Let the Good Thymes Roll Italian Spice Blend, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper and stir in basil. Bring mixture to simmer.

  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer until liquid has reduced slightly, about 20 minutes.

    Freeze unused portion, if desired.
